Chicago Blackhawks win Stanley Cup
The Chicago Blackhawks, had an extraordinary season this year, especially for having a shorter season. The Blackhawks went nearly 30 games without a regulation loss, and Made it through the Stanley Cup Playoffs with ease. The Blackhawks started the playoffs against the Minnesota Wild, and lost Game 1. This was the last victory of the season for the Minnesota Wild, as the Blackhawks would win the next four games to eliminate the Minnesota Wild. Meanwhile, the Finals runner- up Boston Bruins faced off against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and defeated the Leafs in 7 games. The Chicago Blackhawks struggled in the Western Conference Semi Finals, as they lost 3 games against the Detroit Red wings. The Chicago Blackhawks scored in overtime in Game 7 to hold off the red wings to move on to the conference finals to challenge the defending champions, the Los Angeles Kings. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Rangers in 5 games. They would then sweep the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Chicago Blackhawks eliminated the kings with ease. Then came the Stanley Cup Final. Game 1 was a Hawks victory, as was game 2. Game 3 was an OT victory for the Blackhawks. The series was then 3-0 Chicago. The Boston Bruins were not finished yet, as they blank the Hawks 2-0 in game 4, and defeat the Hawks in OT during game 5. The awarding game for the Blackhawks was game 6. The Bruins were close to pushing the series to a Game 7, but the momentum changed when the Blackhawks pulled their goalie and scored to tie the game at 2 each. The Hawks would come back 17 seconds later to score again and take the lead. The final minute is played and the Bruins are unable to produce a miracle. The Chicago Blackhawks became the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks would also receive the Conn Smyth Award.
